Into to Improv “no rules” Quilting

During this small group workshop. You will be taken through an improvisational, free form approach to quilting, as well as learning the necessary techniques to make your own small sized card mounted quilt or wallhanging.

We start by exploring the creative “no rules” approach taken to improvise the design of your quilt. Looking at different colour combinations and textures to create a pallet for your piece. We will then work through the process of creating your own quilted textile piece, looking at different ways to quilt that suits you and your design. By the end of this session you will have created a beautifully quilted textile piece and the know how to create more!

WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?

Sewing Level


Some experience. Some basic sewing experience is the minimum necessary, and you need to know how to thread up and use a sewing machine. No quilting experience is not necessary. You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine if you would like, please make sure it’s in good working order.

YOU WILL NEED TO BRING:

To bring


• Your finished piece will be approximately 30 x 45cm, so please bring along a piece of non-stretch fabric for the back approx. 50 x 65cm.


• Optional: two or three pieces of non-stretch fabric you would like to include in your piece - they could be scraps you have at home, old clothes or bought especially.

Provided

* A sewing machine to use (please feel free to bring your own if you prefer)

* All threads - machine and embroidery

* Cotton Wadding

* A wide variety of scrap fabrics to work with alongside your own

* Hand sewing needles

* Tools such as scissors, rotary cutter etc

WHERE WILL THE WORKSHOP BE?

CRAFT Sheffield

All classes take place in our studio space in Sheffield. We are on the main bus route along Abbeydale road.

We have a dedicated workshop space. We are located within The Old Coach House building. Access is via a flight of stair. Unfortunately we aren’t accessible to wheelchairs or pushchairs.

The studio has 8 Brother sewing machines, 4 Brother overlockers and all the sewing equipment you need for your sewing projects. We have a fully equipped kitchen and toilet.
