Saturday Dressmaking for beginners course

£250.00

During the 4 sessions we will work together to create a garment of your choice. Choose a pattern and your fabric and you will finish the course with confidence and a beautiful finished handmade garment.

Each session will cover different skills and techniques. You will work through making a pattern of your choice. We will work through the pattern together to create and finish the garment over the 4 sessions.

The run of classes run every consecutive Saturday for 4 weeks.

Please make sure you are available for each session as there won’t be an opportunity to make up any hours missed.

Class sized are limited to 6 per class.

Week 1 -

10am -12.30pm

• Learn to measure yourself correctly and document your measurements, selecting the right size for you on your pattern.

• We will look at patterns and how to read and understand the lingo.

•Trace out your pattern and learn to alter to your size.

Week 2 -

10am till 12.30pm

• Lay planning - learn how to arrange your pattern to cut your fabric correctly

• Pining and cutting out your fabric

• Making a start on your garment

Weeks 3 & 4 -

10am - 4pm

Full day with a break for lunch.

• Garment construction - making your garment and testing fit along the way.

• Understanding the importance of interfacing, stay stitching and pressing.

• Learning hemming techniques.

• Finishing off your garment

During week one we will schedule in any other techniques that might come up in your pattern. This might be zip insertion, adding pockets, bias binding or interfacing.

You will finish the 4 week course with a made to measure garment. And bags of confidence and sewing know how for your next project.
